I am writing this letter as I sit next to a pile of papers. Mail that I need to sort, notes to self, a few too many to-do lists, scribbled ideas that have turned into We All Feel stories that you have read. On on my kitchen table, there is another stack of papers. My desk has too many sticky notes to count.
I facetimed with my best friend on Friday & told her to ignore the papers, and she replied in a lighthearted way with something like, “there are always papers!”
Today I told my therapist I wish I were more organized. (Yes, I’m a therapist who has a therapist). And she asked me something along the lines of, “Do you actually want to be more organized or do you feel like you need to be organized in a certain way because society says so?”
A question that I responded to and that also needs more time for reflection.
I have never willingly shared a photo of my disorganized tabletops and I probably never will. I write We All Feel to normalize the behind the scenes. Whether it is figurative or physical, we all have a stack of papers.
xoxo,
Amanda
PS In case no one told you today, I love you
PPS Writing this letter will be inspiration enough for me to finally reorganize the papers. I’m giving myself grace for the next time they inevitably pile too high
