Do you ever wake up with anxiety?
For whatever reason (I know the reasons), yesterday I was jolted out of bed by by a laundry list of to do’s and a silly but anxiety made it feel serious case of “I don’t know what to wear.”
I brushed my teeth and went on my morning walk before looking at my phone. (It feels really empowering to recommit to hold habits & I’m grateful to be getting back to this rhythm).
In honor of keeping things as real as possible on this corner of the internet, I want to state what is maybe obvious… my outfit anxiety did not completely dissipate during my walk. My morning routines DO help me feel better in general & sometimes stress is stress!
I needed to pick out an outfit for an event at the end of the day, where I did not know anyone. I wanted to feel confident and I finally decided on a cotton sundress.
By the time it was 5pm the sunny California day turned to cold, cloudy & windy for an outdoor event. My options were to freeze in my sundress, or put on cozy yoga clothes and a sweater that I had with me from earlier in the morning.
I showed up to the event in yoga attire and guess what? My outfit did not matter!
All this to say, my morning anxiety was unnecessary.
Sometimes I remember to ask myself, “will this matter next week? will this matter in a year from now?”
I forgot about those questions yesterday morning, but as I reflect with a smile today, I certainly know that I will not be stressing about my attire anytime soon.
xoxo,
Amanda
PS In case no one told you today, I love you.
PPS Ironically, last night’s event was all about sustainability. Panelists spoke about fashion and I learned that on average most people only wear a clothing item 7 times before discarding it. Oof! In a world where we want to buy buy buy and keep up with the latest trends a big takeaway from the event is that “sustainability is when you’re mindful of your reaction to impulses.” Read that one again! Maybe more on this topic another time…
