Today’s newsletter is supposed to be all about the announcement I have been waiting for YEARS to make… I am opening my virtual private practice for adults living in NYC!!!!!!! I was going to wait until the end of this post to share, but realized I am too excited about it that I have to say it first thing!!!!
And now for story time:
A few years ago I learned that looking at photos can actually help you to feel “happier.” Whether it’s viewing images of places you aspire to visit, or memories with loved ones, pictures have the ability to transport us. I’m sure you can visualize a photo that lifts your spirits, that you whole-heartedly love, where you look at it and feel lighter and are overwhelmed with gratitude. Or a photo of remembrance, where you’re reminded of who you were at a very specific time in your life, or of a relative or role model who impacted who you are now. One photo might bring it all up: warmth, laughter, tenderness, grief & longing.
Anyways… I went to Miami in 2017 and snapped a photo of a bright colorful chandelier. For someone who loves pictures so much, somehow that shot remained the background of my phone since then…. A chandelier in a hotel spa. Needless to say, it was time for a change.
While scrolling on my phone last week, I stumbled upon pictures in one of my favorite cities in the world, Santa Fe. The photo I took is below. And I’ll explain what’s so special about it too.
There were some critical thoughts about how I took the photo but I quickly set those wishes aside because ohhh do I love what this picture represents: “Now is the time to let your radiance shine.” These words are powerful to be reminded of on a literal level as I launch my business. Though the deeper context has to do with my mom. She creates powerful wellbeing programs for women, and her business slogan for the past year+ has been “the radiant woman shines.” When I took this photo she had never shared those words with me.
I look at this photo and feel an instant connection to my mom and her ability to persevere. I know that being a business owner takes grit and I’m ready - as ready as I can be - for the rollercoaster ride.
I believe in messages and signs, and knew when I came across this, that it was exactly what I needed to see. The small shift of a new phone screen saver has me smiling when I pick up my phone. I’m reminded of this time of change in my life, from being an employee and a part time freelancer, to being a full time business owner. To going out on my own!
All this to say, I’m now accepting virtual clients for individual therapy in NYC! If you know of any young adults looking for a therapist, you can share my website and I’m happy to connect with them!
If you’ve made it this far, you’re an absolute superstar.
Xoxo,
Amanda
PS Here’s the link if someone you know in NYC is looking for a therapist, to schedule a free 15 min consult call with me!
PPS What I also love about the photo is the little adobe building in the background. Santa Fe’s architecture drew me in. And that adobe reminds me of my dream turned reality to visit Santa Fe, it reminds me of love and possibility.
PPPS In case no told you today, I love you.
