Friends!!
The last time I sent this letter, I insisted that a summer necessity is for you to feel happy for no reason. So now, a month-ish later… I can’t help but to remind you of this (which really means to remind myself of this).
Here are questions to ask yourself: How can I practice feeling happy for no reason? What is an activity I can participate in where I let myself feel and revel in absolute joy? Can I close my eyes and imagine beauty surrounding me, even and especially on a really hard day? Am I worthy of feeling goodness? (Spoiler answer to the last question, of course you are).
Sometimes the words (like what is above) flow freely. And sometimes my words are so stuck. I have written and rewritten and deleted so many pieces of this letter.
Next week, I will share about leading retreat to Portugal. Next week, I will share more about upcoming support groups.
This week, today, I have to share about being human.
I have to remind you that life is so unpredictable!!! That we never know what the person sitting next to us on the airplane or on the subway or on the street or in the grocery store or at the opposite end of a party is going through. This means that this life not only comes with a big opportunity but also a necessity to be kind. We have to and we get to be there for each other.
Here are some small & big ways to practice kindness today and this week:
Smile at a stranger
Small talk with strangers or neighbors
Favors for neighbors (without expecting anything in return)
Hold the door / elevator open for someone even if you’re in a rush
Practice patience with customer service
Send or give someone an old photograph
Express empathy
Include someone who seems excluded
Clean up after someone else’s mess
Offer a loved one a hug
Offer a loved multiple really big hugs
This week I witnessed and received kindness from loved ones and from absolute strangers. I learned so much from the strangers.
xoxo,
Amanda
PS In case no one told you today, I love you
PPS Leave a comment with a story of kindness from a loved one or from a stranger. Let’s lift each other up 💗
