A few months ago, I went to a wellness event and brought my yoga mat. It’s the same one I’ve had since college — maybe even high school. Somehow, after all these years, it had stayed in great condition.
After the event, I couldn’t find it anywhere. For weeks, I mentally retraced my steps and convinced myself it was somewhere I just could not see in the backseat or trunk of my car. After multiple car searches, eventually, it clicked to where I had left it. I sent a few messages and — miraculously — the event space (which wasn’t even a yoga studio) still had it. They had tucked it away, waiting for someone to claim it.
I was surprised! I wasn’t deeply attached to the mat, but as I began to write this, I realized it had been with me through a lot of life. It had held my weight, literally and figuratively, for years.
A few weeks later… I lost it again. And this time, for good.
(I promise I’m not usually this forgetful.)
I kept hoping it would turn up, but now enough time has passed that I think it's officially gone. I like to imagine someone found it and brought it home, that it’s being unrolled and used as a new foundation for someone else’s journey.
Losing it twice was a reminder. A not-so-subtle nudge from the universe that I was moving too fast, juggling too much, not fully grounded in the present moment. It also coincided with a larger theme in my life right now: letting go. Letting go of what was. Of what I thought would be. Of dreams that no longer fit. Of objects that once held meaning, but now feel ready to move on.
If you’re reading this, I’ll leave you with a few questions:
This week, in this life: Am I moving too quickly? Where can I slow down, even a little?
What am I holding onto too tightly?
What might I be ready to release — an object, a belief, a version of myself?
Here’s to unexpected reminders, planned and unplanned goodbyes, and creating space for what’s next.
xoxo,
Amanda
PS In case no one told you today, I love you
