In a recent moment of feeling let down — I wished and wondered why and how as adults — we can drift so far from the values many of us learned when we were little.
The first one that came to mind:
Two wrongs don’t make a right.
It made me pause. Reflect. Dream.
In a world where I am doing my very best, I also have moments where I forget to pause before I speak. Where I lose sight of those early messages — love your neighbor, be kind, forgive (forgive, forgive...)
What are the guiding principles we still carry?
And which ones have gotten buried — that might be worth re-remembering?
So I’d love to hear from you:
What’s a principle you learned early on that you still stand by?
OR what is one you’d like to reconnect with now?
So many of you write and reply to me directly (which I adore). But if you click on the comment button at the bottom of the email, you’ll be directed to the Substack website or app — I’d love for others to hear your reflections, too.
Thanks, as always, for being a part of this community. Thanks for feeling what you feel, when you need to feel it.
XOXO,
Amanda
PS In case no one told you today, I love you
so true...it never gets old...becasue there's only one of us here!
An oldie but goodie, “treat others the way you want to be treated.” Now you have me wondering where the root of these principles we’ve grown up with come from, I’m sure biblical in some way but now curious! Thank you for this reflection
