Temperature Check - Outside & Within
If it feels like you’re toggling between extremes you’re not alone.
It’s a high of 86 in Los Angeles today — which means I’m staying fueled with hearty meals & adding in electrolytes. Meanwhile, friends and family on the East Coast tell me the rain just keeps coming. I am hopeful that the “June Gloom” grey LA mornings have finally lifted. Storms and sunshine, bright and bleak — coast to coast.
It’s always brighter on the other side?
Heat and rain, hope and heartache, clarity and confusion… If it feels like you’re toggling between extremes you’re not alone. The question I keep hearing from friends, and even scrolling on social media, is: “Is this really happening?”
Because yes — the world feels heavy. There’s so much grief. And yet, there are these tiny pockets of joy and sweetness that still find us. This past weekend, I had one of the best weekends I’ve had in a long time. A real feel-good, soul-lifting, light-returning kind of weekend. And a part of me almost didn’t want to admit that. How strange it is to name something good in the midst of so much pain.
But here’s what I’ve come to believe — and maybe you have too: the goodness doesn’t cancel out the hard, and the hard doesn’t make the goodness any less real.
So what I can think of to share about today, is similar to what I share when I don’t know what to share.
We have to take care of ourselves first. We have to, because we get to.
What’s your self-kindness go-to?
Baking cookies? Favorite at-home or in-studio workout class? Calling a friend? Making your favorite latte — coffee, matcha, saffron, golden…?
What’s something small you can commit to doing to take care of yourself today? What’s something medium-sized you can commit to for this week? Who’s on your team?
