We All Feel - Introduction
I've been dreaming about the day I could invite you to this space, thanks in advance for being here.
Welcome to my very first substack! Some of you may have received an email blast from me in 2020 with career related updates, and the intention to keep sharing… Well here we are again, in a new format, and this time I have a (loose) plan. With a purpose I hope will support you.
If you receive too many emails, please unsubscribe, although today, I hope you’ll consider reading and that you might find some inspiration too. I also decided to read this whole article aloud in case you want to listen instead!
You might not know that I’m a dreamer.
Ideas are constantly flowing through my wandering mind. Open the notes app on my phone (or look at the many post-its or reused pieces of paper around me) and you’ll find many partially-thought through concepts, stories or questions…
These ideas come to me as my eyes are closing before bed, while riding the subway, on my daily walks… and especially when I’m in the mountains.
In September while driving through Colorado’s breathtaking independence pass, my sister in the passenger seat, I suddenly screeched… “I HAVE A NAME FOR THE SUBSTACK!!! Text it to me so I don’t forget!!”
Finally, a name for THIS.
We All Feel was officially born… in my mind.
As any good visualizer (procrastinator) does… I thought about it, thought about it, and thought some more. I wrote many versions of this welcome email and set quite a few personal deadlines that I missed.
For many years I would feel down about not hitting a personal target but I’ve learned (and am learning) to change the narrative about the part of myself that can get distracted.
I love that I’m a dreamer. I love that I believe in fairytales. I love that I am empathetic. And I especially love the part of myself that feels so deeply.
We All Feel is a reminder that even as a therapist and a yoga teacher, I am human. This substack is an invitation for you to feel what you need to feel, when you need to feel it. For you to know that you are never alone in what you’re going through, what you’re feeling, or dealing with.
Consider setting aside ten minutes or longer for these journal prompts: What feeling(s) am I avoiding? Why is it hard for me to go there? Is it safe for me to go there?
What to expect? This substack might include contemplations and revelations on the complexities of life (ha), insights on yoga and mental health, journal prompts, and the things getting me through - to help us all get through. I’ll also share about upcoming in-person or virtual offerings.
Thank you in advance for joining this journey. For being a day 1 opener and reader. If one line or one word I share resonates, please let me know. If it’s been a while, reply and say hi!
xoxo,
Amanda
PS
In case no one told you today, I love you.
